The “Shark” pattern, one of the “Edo Sanyaku” (Three Great Edo Patterns), was known for its intricate detail and was used on the ceremonial garments of Edo-era samurai. The exquisite circular patterns are arranged in a delicate balance that showcases the high skill of the stencil carver. The subtle “fluttering” quality of the fabric is also part of the shark pattern’s charm and is a testament to the artisan’s handiwork.
